A's to offer in-ballpark
mobile messaging
The Oakland Athletics have
teamed up with
NetInformer, a wireless interactive media company, to
launch an in-stadium mobile messaging application that will
allow fans to text vote and participate in live interactive
contests during the A's three-game series against the Anaheim
Angels, which gets underway Friday night at Network Associates
Coliseum.
During the second inning of each game, fans will have the
opportunity to use their mobile phones to answer a baseball
trivia question presented on the Diamond Vision screen via
2-way SMS (Short Message Service). Everyone who participates
will be sent a wireless coupon for a discount on their next
ticket purchase that can be redeemed by bringing their mobile
phone to the A's box office. In addition, a randomly selected
fan who answers the trivia question correctly will receive
four complimentary Field Level tickets to a future A's home
game.
"Our unique automated sports
application, SPORTSinformer, has been designed to use text
messaging to bring real-time interactivity during live
events," said Greg Pinter, CEO of NetInformer. "We make it
possible for just about any fan with a text-enabled phone from
any carrier to participate in the fun."
"Having wireless messaging
within the ballpark is a tremendous way to increase fan
loyalty and enjoyment by allowing them to become more involved
in the game," said David Alioto, Oakland Athletics vice
president of sales and marketing. "We are delighted to work
with NetInformer on this project that has great potential to
deliver new types of games and promotions to our diverse
audience. This program will help us continue the A's
commitment to delivering a fun and entertaining environment to
each and every fan at Network Associates Coliseum.''
Text messaging provides a new and effective channel for
sponsors and venders to feature their products and services
during an event. NetInformer's mobile marketing division
develops closed loop, interactive marketing campaigns and
revenue generating programs using mobile ads and coupons.
